As soon as you boot up your PlayStation 3 while connected on the PlayStation Network, a new update will be pushed through your console.
Version 3.55 adds nothing except for a security patch. What does this mean? It basically blocks the ability to downgrade the firmware that can lead to a jailbreak. This is a good move to combat piracy on the PlayStation 3!
Sorry guys, the new update contains no new features to get everyone excited.

December 6, 2010 at 10:58 PMJailbreaking the ps3 allowed backwards compatibility on the ps3 and was the first headway in Modding the ps3. It lasted about a week until we all had to *drumroll* update our firmware.

December 6, 2010 at 11:03 PMIt’s lifting the limits on the ps3 jailbreaks on the ps3 mainly consist of being able to copy the game off the disc so you don’t need the disc again

December 7, 2010 at 3:34 AMits about time, these hackers are destroying the online community blatantly hacking in game and ruining the experience for everyone.
Not nice
December 7, 2010 at 3:35 AMShame it brings no new features. Once PS3 informed me an update is required I thought I’d to it if it would bring PS2 compatibility back or something, but now I’m just not motivated enough to update…

December 7, 2010 at 10:11 AMjailbreaking is still possible if you dont upgrade to 3.55. if you are still at 3.5 you can downgrade to 3.41 and jailbreak your ps3. although you cant use psn, which means no online play…at least not until the jailbreaking team discovers how to unlock it.

December 7, 2010 at 2:29 PMWell at least this update will stop the hackers and exploiting the online world of gaming too.
Xbox needs this to because people are still hacking their consoles and cheating online.
Black ops was supposed to be ” Impossible to hack”… My ass!
But yeah, PS3 needs some new nifty feature because it feels as if were still somewhat in the stone age of gaming.

December 7, 2010 at 7:13 PMI am sick and tired of SONY Corporate BS. This is the last time I will ever buy a console from them. First they removed the ability to run Linux, bought a $120 dollar bluetooth keyboard and now it is collecting dust. Second they keep coming up with all these useless firmware upgrade, it adds absolutely nothing to the value but yet without it you can’t bloody log into the PSN! SCREW YOU SONY! I would like to know how they got away with removing linux without being sued!

December 9, 2010 at 1:28 PMHalf of you are stupid as bell and need to STFU.
Sony isn’t doing a single thing about online gameplay cheating.
This 133MB security update does NOTHING to enhance your enjoyment.
All it does is prevent people from illegally copying video games.
If you don’t know what you’re talking about, you need to keep your dumb mouth shut, because you are confusing people who are legitimately interested in learning about this dubious update.
Sheeple go home.

December 11, 2010 at 4:29 AMI don’t jb any of my systems. Someone has to pay, but I don’t condone companies such as Sony taking advantage of people by not fixing what they broke. I have a 60 bc bought 12/26/06 great unit until 3.55. Online has been a mess. It works, but not very well. I confirmed my problems with another new out of the box 80 bc mgs4 now with same crappy 3.55. The 60 worked fine just before the update with no online issues at all. Not very pleased. Will not be playing ps3 (black ops) or paying Sony for any repairs. I also have xbox and black ops. This may have done me in for Sony on anything related to AV. Very disappointed for getting crapped on having fully legal gear and software!
jail breaker
December 11, 2010 at 7:46 AMfor those of you who dont know what jail break is, i can now download an play any ps3, ps2, ps1, snes, nes, game for free. PS3 games for free. only downfall is not being able to play online.so what did i do. the games i really want to play online. cod black ops for example, i just bought another machine. for the money i spent on 2 machines, the 70 + games i have on my 2 hdds is well worth it.

December 17, 2010 at 6:46 PMLOL – stop people from downgrading … I guess if you upgrade and it messes up some of your games – bad luck to you – you can’t go back without a backup …

December 20, 2010 at 8:42 PMWhat is the point fighting against jailbreaking, when hackers always find a way around, at the end of it sony is a fail, its not a gaming company, they should just release cross game chat etc, instead of fighting jailbreaking when its not going to work… Epic Fail Sony.
