First of all to anyone that has been under a rock for the last week let’s bring you up-to-date on the Black Ops leaks. This has happened in two main stages, firstly with beta video leaks followed up by the threat of a massive full game leak via a stolen disc.
It seems Activision/Treyarch are having to spend a lot of time on video websites such as YouTube, as leaked beta gameplay footage has been popping up almost nonstop throughout the week. While of course it’s great that we as gamers get to see lots of this upcoming title, it’s always a nice feeling when a game surprises the player.
Finding out all the new features is great news for the fans but I just hope that Black Ops still has something that we haven’t seen so we are blown away. By watching all the leaked videos and experiencing for example the uses of an RC car, it will no longer feel as original and have the fun factor that it would of, if previously unseen.
Of course as I’ve said there are some positives to be had from leaked videos. Due to the leaks we now know things to put our minds at rest. We see how certain new or tweaked killstreaks, look relatively balanced and also have a complete list of the maps and know a bit about them. Players can now see how there’s a good range of map sizes with some small, medium and large. When it comes to balance issues of course only when playing the game will these come to light properly; but currently from all the footage I have personally seen it looks a well balanced title, something which no player should complain about.
When it comes to the stolen disc, no matter how you look at it, it’s still illegal to steal the disc and also to distribute the code. This won’t stop lots of people from buying Call of Duty: Blacks Ops but I just hope that Activision don’t attempt to make up the revenue they loss from the code being released, through charging more for the DLC packs that have already been announced.
Overall the leaks are great for gamers, the fact they are mostly to date only multiplayer means the story is relatively unknown allowing for the game to have amazing cinematic surprises in store for players. Lets just hope that if the code does get released like that of Halo: Reach it doesn’t negatively affect the game.
