One of the games that XSEED showcased this year on the show floor is Ivy the Kiwi, an upcoming action adventure game on the Wii and DS. During the event, I took my time and sat down with XSEED’s Public Relations Manager, Jimmy Soga, to learn more about what Ivy the Kiwi has to offer. The first time I heard about this game, I was hesitant due to the title. As soon as I got a hands-on trial of it and learned more about the game, I got mixed emotions. Ivy the Kiwi is a fun, sometimes frustrating, puzzle game.
Set for release this summer, Ivy the Kiwi will not only be available on the Nintendo Wii but on the Nintendo DS as well. Created by the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Ivy the Kiwi is a cute action adventure game that relies on players’ stamina in guiding Kiwi using three Ivys at a time at the finish line. The story of Ivy the Kiwi is simple: an egg drops from the sky and it hatches. The little Kiwi is set out to look for his mother and that’s the start of Kiwi’s epic journey.
Using the Wii Remote, players will have to make an Ivy for Kiwi to walk into. There is no way to control Kiwi’s movements. Kiwi will just walk straight and if there’s an obstacle in front of her, Kiwi will just go back. Players must swing using the Ivy until Kiwi reaches the end of the level. It sounds easy but there are a lot of obstacles that are in store for you. There are a total of ten chapters in the game, each with five sub-levels. Upon completing the game, 50 more stages will be unlocked. When the 50 extra stages are unlocked, a Bonus Mode will be unlocked adding 200+ more stages.
The Wii version of Ivy the Kiwi will feature a multiplayer mode. Up to three people can join in and help Kiwi get to its final destination. As for the DS version, everything is the same except you have to make an Ivy for Kiwi by drawing it on the touch screen.
Ivy the Kiwi is scheduled for summer release on the Nintendo Wii and DS. Check back with us near the release date for more information on the game.
