DeathSmiles on the Xbox 360 is an arcade shooter game that will be coming out this June 26th. For an arcade shooter game like this, it’s typical for it to appear on the Xbox LIVE Arcade rather than in retail packaging. Now that I got the final build of the game in my hands, I spent several hours playing through the world of Gilverado, where the kingdom is plagued by monsters and disturbed souls. For “lolita” themed fans, this is a game the player will be looking forward to play as the characters are cute little girls trying to make the player drool while you shoot evil forces.
In DeathSmiles, there are a lot of modes that a player can choose from but the levels that a player will be playing are the same. The only difference is the aspect ratio and the controls. Before a player can start their adventure in the kingdom of Gilverado, four lolita characters will be playable; one character named Sakura will be available to use in the Mega Black Label mode. Each of them have their own projectiles but it all works the same. Once the game starts, the player will have to fight a lot of monsters via their projectiles. The controls are pretty easy to get used to as the player can fire projectiles to the right by pressing the RT button. Whenever the enemies are on the left, the character can switch to their left and press the LT button. There are options to choose from as to what controls a player will prefer; if a player decides to shoot enemies by using the right stick, then the Deathsmiles 1.1 mode will be best suited for them. At the end of each level, there will be a boss fight.
Visually DeathSmiles is nothing to be excited about. Don’t expect it to be all shiny HD as this is a direct port of the arcade game that was released several years ago. With the different modes that a player can choose from, the graphics will be enhanced when a player chooses the Xbox 360 mode. When an arcade version is chosen, a player will be seeing a small screen on their television set. The only fascinating thing that I love about this game is how chaotic it can get when playing the game. Expect to see fireworks even though the graphics aren’t that next-generation.
At the end of each level, the player will receive a score. Thanks to the Xbox LIVE service, there will be an online leaderboard. A player can check their worldwide rankings and be proud of their achievements. For gamers who wants to play with friends, there is a co-op mode that both players can play. For casual players, there will be a tutorial mode that they can play. Honestly, the game is easy to pick up and play and won’t need any tutorials.
DeathSmiles will be available on the Xbox 360 on June 26th. Check back with us for full review of the game on the 22nd. Videos on the gameplay will be made available later this week. Stay tuned.

June 10, 2010 at 11:00 AMHope this gets a European release sometime. If it does, I’ll probably get a 360 for it, along with the other Cave shooters that are region free.
