Last week, Konami and Microsoft released the demo of N3II: Ninety-Nine Nights on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. It is actually the same demo that was available for play during the Konami Press Event a couple of months ago. Now that everyone will get a chance to play the sequel of Ninety-Nine Nights, should fans of the series expect the same treatment? It is no lie that the first one was hideous due to its repetitive gameplay. The demo that is now available should give you a glimpse on what to expect in the final version.
N3II: Ninety-Nine Nights Demo on the Xbox 360 features two levels. Only one character will be playable but that character is customizable. From the demo’s interface, players will get a chance to customize their own equipments. Just on the sequel, players can now choose an active and passive skills that a character can equip. The active skills can be used while on the battlefield. Choose from the available skills and the player can choose what button activates it. To active a skill, simply hold the LB button and press any of the A, B, X, Y to launch the special attacks. When a player uses any of the active skills, it will replenish overtime.
From the demo I’ve played, nothing have changed in terms on how the game plays. A player will be given a goal in each mission. Hundreds of enemies will be on the battlefield at one time, similar to the first game, a player must eliminate them using the variety of attacks that are available and the active skills that you saved. Honestly, the battle system is still repetitive but what makes it somehow fun is seeing how the character can wipe hundreds of enemies by using a skill. Expect to see one big boss in the demo that will impress you with its visuals.
Comparing the visuals of the first game to the sequel, players can see a difference. The graphics on N3II: Ninety-Nine Nights is somewhat more vibrant than the first game. The environments look clean but as for the enemies, they still look fuzzy. Since there is only one character that is playable in the demo, the character models are well designed and it’s simply an improvement to the first game. The animation on the attacks is not as impressive as you would see in today’s hack and slash game.
N3II: Ninety-Nine Nights is scheduled to be released on June 23rd in North America. Please take note that this impression is based on the demo that is now available. What’s in the demo might be changed completely on the final version. Check back with us near the release date of the game for our exclusive review. If you have Xbox Live Gold, download the demo for yourself. Make sure you have at least 600MB of space in your hard drive.
