New details are unraveling for the world of Xenoblade, the Wii exclusive RPG from developer Monolith Soft, creators of the Xenosaga series and previously involved with Xenogears. You may even remember the recent trailers showcasing the premise, main characters, and some gameplay footage. Well, this week’s issue of Famitsu has revealed the full playable cast as well as some new details regarding Xenoblade’s world and story.
Thanks to RPGFan for compiling the details. Here’s the full playable characters list:
Shulk – Age: 17, Gender: Male, Race: Homs. An orphan who discovers that he can wield the legendary blade, Monado. He sets off on a journey to exact revenge on the Kishin soldiers who attacked his village.
Fiorun – Age: 18, Gender: Female, Race: Homs. The younger sister of Dunban, and childhood friend to Shulk. She has a nurturing personality.
Dunban – Age: 30, Gender: Male, Race: Homs. Known as a hero to his race, he previously wielded Monado and used it to slay his enemies. A year before the story begins, he sustained a major injury in battle and is still recovering.
Rein – Age: 18, Gender: Male, Race: Homs. Another childhood friend of Shulk. He is a member of the Defense Force in Colony 9, which is where he lives with Shulk, Fiorun, and Dunban.
Carna – Age: 21, Gender: Female, Race: Homs. A master of projectile weapons that serves in the Colony 6 Defense Force.
Melia – Age: ??, Gender: Female, Race: Hienter. A young girl who is skilled with ether attacks (Xenoblade’s form of magic). She lives in a futuristic society on the god Kyoshin.
Riki – Age: ??, Gender: Male, Race: Nopon. A juvenile member of a non-human race who function primarily as merchants. He makes dubious claims about being a legendary hero.
Some new interesting tidbits have also surfaced about the Monado sword. An ancient artifact said to have been given to the Homs race, it has the sole power to penetrate the enemy Kishin’s armor and as such, it is the Homs’ only hope. While anyone can technically wield it, only the legendary hero Dunban is currently strong enough to unleash its full power. Xenoblade will also feature a day/night time cycle as evident from this newly released trailer.
The exploration certainly reminds me of Final Fantasy XII, Rogue Galaxy, and White Knight Chronicles which is a good thing. Make sure to stay tuned for more detailed updates as Xenoblade nears its June 10th release in Japan. Heck, I don’t even have a Wii and I’m keeping my eyes on this one.
