Famitsu Magazine Under Fire

After Famitsu’s distribution of perfect Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker scores, people were instantly up in arms about it. Kotaku even wrote an article with a title stating “Do Not Trust This Magazine’s Review Scores.” Their article really does not even give valid reasoning to not trusting them, instead trying to make themselves look better by bashing Famitsu. It’s quite sad really that the biggest argument they could come up with was an entire article on the Japanese mag giving into hype. It’s really sad to see that fellow game journalists feel the need to bash each other and claim that others are biased when they know for a fact that they are as well. Everyone is, although some try harder than others not to be. I personally know I am Sony biased, but I try my hardest to review everything equally although it is VERY hard to do. here. Also take note at the things 108 from selectbutton says about both Famitsu and its readers. Sounds really mature to me.

Giuseppe Nelva from Classy Gamer formed the best explanation/argument to this latest bit of quarrel between journalists. You can read his article here. I agree with Nelva 100% on the fact that gamers should take their own personal opinion into account when deciding on new games to purchase. Don’t trust or rely on any one’s reviews to steer you towards a game decision. Simply use reviews as a guide on deeper information or even a slight help on your decision. Just don’t go into your local Target to buy a game with only the words of a reviewer who doesn’t even know you, let alone your personal tastes in video games, as your only deciding factor.

And finally, as for Famitsu Magazine, leave ’em alone guys. It shouldn’t matter to you how they do business, review, or advertise. You don’t like how they do things there? That’s fine, its your personal opinion. Go on your way and leave them be. You don’t have to bash them at every turn just for giving a game that looks promising perfect scores.
