SNK Playmore has been one of my favorite developers when it comes to playing fighting games on an arcade. I have seen and played a lot of classic fighting games such as the King of Fighters, and the Samurai Showdown series. In a few days, the newest fighting game from SNK Playmore and the publisher, XSEED Games will be releasing the latest installment of the Samurai Shodown exclusively on the Xbox 360.
Just a few hours ago, I finally had a chance to play the final build of Samurai Shodown SEN. Now that we’re in the era of high definition, one of the things that everyone should expect is that the graphics is somewhat crispier. Of course, if I get to compare the graphics from the last Samurai Shodown game to the recent one, you would see that is somehow improved. It is not as good as other fighting games out there such as Tekken 6 or Virtua Fighter.
Samurai Shodown SEN features a Story-mode, a Survival mode, Practice, Online game mode and a leaderboard. I haven’t been able to try out the online mode since only a few people have this game (mainly the press). I have tried out the Story and Survival mode. When I played the story mode, I got the classic feel from past SNK titles. As always, you have to pick a character to use and go through a series of battles. As for the survival mode, you just have to survive every match; just as what the mode is all about.
As for the moves, I only had the chance to try out one character. The combos can be hard to pull off but maybe it’s only me since it’s been a while since I played a fighting game. However, it is basic execution and nothing too fancy. The character art looks fantastic, although when it comes to picking out characters; it gives the feeling of Feudal Japan. I believe there are more than twenty characters to choose from and they vary from a Samurai to a beautiful sexy fighter.
Samurai Shodown SEN is slated to come out on March 30th in the United States. Check back with us next week for our full-review of the game and some videos to look at.
