In the recent issue of Famitsu magazine, there was a large section featuring Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife and squashed rumors of a Final Fantasy VII re-make. The magazine shows a glimpse of games that he will be appearing on as a cameo, but Nomura says not to expect a full revival of the beloved classic anytime soon.
With Final Fantasy VII being one of the most highly requested games to be revamped, Nomura’s statement will surely disappoint the core fans of the series, and classic gamers in general. With a slew of games slated for 2010 (including FFXIII and Dissidia Final Fantasy), Square Enix certainly has plenty to offer, but as far as revisiting the glory days of FFVII… don’t wait around.
On a brighter note, one of the main highlights in this particular issue of Famitsu is how Cloud Strife’s life began, and also shows the year he was born and for the rest of the characters. Damn, they really love Cloud Strife!

January 23, 2010 at 12:14 PMI’m proud of Square. I really am. They are more than willing to move on and do other things aside from Final Fantasy VII. I personally think more people would prefer something new and unique rather than a remake of one of the most overrated games of all time. So good for you Square! Keep fighting the good fight and make some really badass games that are 100 (if not 1,000) times better than Final Fantasy VII. It’s had it’s run, it’s been around long enough. Time to go do something else.

January 23, 2010 at 12:30 PMSorry Hawk but it wasn’t the best selling Final Fantasy title of all time for nothing. You and the rest of the haters need to just deal with it. It was the best and most popular of the series for good reason. I take Nomura’s comments with a grain of salt only because every year when Square-Enix holds their annual conference in Japan they do a poll asking the fans what game they would like to see a remake of and FFVII always wins hands down. It will happen eventually.

January 23, 2010 at 1:04 PMThe decline of Square Enix continues. Final Fantasy XIII will never outsell Final Fantasy VII. Nor has any Final Fantasy since it. I pray to every diety in the universe to condemn these morons to ruin. The remake should have happened a long time ago. And now it supposedly will never happen. Instead FF gets more linear and bubble gumish with lil girls bouncing around and doing narration while whiny little children become emotional pivot points. You’re a buncha fools for eating this stuff up.

Dude, Dissidia was released more than six months ago.

January 23, 2010 at 1:59 PMAnyone who says the FF series has declined since FF VII obviously doesn’t know anything about videogames, FF X was one of the best games ever created, much better than VII. FF games aren’t linear, they’re simply story – driven. Would you rather play open – world garbage with no story or meaning like Borderlands or Halo? Didn’t think so.
Anyway….on to the article, this makes no sense. They have already remade most of the early FF games on the GBA/DS, why can’t they remake VII – IX for the PS3? Square must realise that a FF VII remake would be an absolute goldmine for them, i’m sure what Nomura means is “It’s not happening in the near – future.” rather than “It’s not happening at all.”.
S – E are pretty busy right now with XIII, Versus XIII, Agito XIII and XIV so maybe once they get all those products finished and shipped they can start to think about remaking VII.

January 23, 2010 at 9:02 PMHonestly I agree with Hawk there, FFVII is completely overrated.
FFVI ahhh, now that’s the game!
Remake me a FFVI and I’ll be damn fucking happy. I could care less about emo Cloud, Terra would whoop his ass any day. You can’t go wrong with Kefka either, seeing as he actually succeeded in his plans. Sure Sephiroth is still probably the most ultimate badass villian, but Kefka did what he couldn’t. Although FFVII will always hold a special place in my heart, VI really was and probably always will be the best in the series IMO.
X is pretty up there too.

January 23, 2010 at 9:19 PMHawk, I think the fact they still create so many FFVII spin-offs and the fact so many people request the re-make is proof enough that people want it. I don’t know where you get the idea that ‘more people’ would want something new?

January 24, 2010 at 7:06 AMI read this article and had a grin on my face. Personally, I think FFVII is an ok game. Not a great game, and not the ‘best game evah’, but that’s just my own opinion. I’m glad that this has been said, though others here have posted valid points. The fans will still whine and beg for a FFVII remake, but imo, SE has declined with their games. The Last Remnant and Star Ocean The Last Hope are mediocre and dull games, and the Sony Generation of FF games have declined as well. I despise FFX and X-2, and XII was a waste of time.
That’s just my own opinion, which is probably different from everyone else’s, but you can’t please everybody.

March 12, 2010 at 12:22 AMcome on guys.. cloud & co. has been in the spot light for almost too long. i think its time for them to finally step aside and pass the torch to the next generation of FF heroes. just like zack passing the buster sword to cloud. seriously i dont want to see a scene where in cloud is passing the buster sword to denzel! man… ff7 trully is the best among all FF titles, thats why the demand for spin-offs, sequels, prequels.. REMAKEs are so sky high. but its really never that easy. this remake could make or destroy the whole ff7 legacy! what if a single scene differs from the original? that would sprout dismay to those loyal to the original ff7.. or something similar to that.
what im saying is.. why would you fix something that isnt broken?
the only way i think for a ff7 remake is if SE is about to get bankcrupt and is needing more money.
PS my english = bad

May 14, 2010 at 8:03 AMWhy do people want a remake so badly. Why not just play the original, that was good, like rye said ‘Why fix something that isn’t broken’
