Hundreds of thousands throughout the week voted for what they believed to be the best game of 2009. Four nominees were selected for specific categories and were put side by side to see which one would come out on top. In determining the winner of the 2009 Game of the Year Awards user votes counted for 75% of the overall total votes while 25% of it came from the staff and editors of Just Push Start.
Without further ado, here are this year’s winners:
BEST RPG Game of 2009
Tim Harris says:
“..a great game for any RPG fan and is sure to fill that void for a great action RPG. In depth customization, awesome battle system and dungeon crawling, and beautifully rendered environments coupled with some great online gameplay..”
Out of the four games that competed for this year’s Best RPG of 2009, Demon’s Souls managed to stay on top. There have been many releases that have challenged gamers over the years, but none of them compare to PS3s exclusive Demons Souls. With its deep leveling system, amazing boss battles, unique online play, and extreme difficulty, this game was a no brainer surprise to be the gamer’s choice for Best RPG of 2009. Because of the games uniqueness and being set to the hardcore gamer, we reviewed this game with a 5/5.
Viken, a Just Push Start visitor says:
“… amazing game, playing as a barbarian, but for gunplay hours, im not sure, i guess it depends largely on a persons skill curve as when you die you have to repeat an full section with mobs re-spawned, and i read on average a game will finish while your still at soul lvl 300 on average and the games max lvl is 792 so there are a lot of hours to be spent replaying.I’m loving and hating and then loving this game over and over “
BEST Fighting Game of 2009
James Rickle says:
“..If you are in the mode for a solid fighter that has PLENTY to offer, Tekken 6 is for you. Even if you have never played a Tekken game in your life, this is something to be experienced. Lengthy single player, cool characters, customization out the wazoo, and an ever growing online community make this a must own fighting game…”
Namco brought back the original 3D fighter this year to consoles with their U.S release of Tekken 6. While it has been around in Japan since late 2007, this game still owns its own unique charm with its 2009 U.S release. With over 40 characters to choose from, a lengthy single player campaign, and an intense online mode, this fighter had Tekken fans and new comers a like in awe.

Most platformers these days focus on the hero’s journey, but little show the hero’s motivation and driving force. Braid looks to change that as it dives deeper into the main character’s thoughts and past. This brings a whole new level of depth to basic side-scrolling platformers as one solves the challenging puzzles and reveals the mature story.

December 12, 2009 at 6:11 PMglad demons souls got rpg it deserved it.same with uncharted 2 for goty it deserved it to,but shooter should go to kz2 because it was simply more realistic feeling and better graphs better online class and rank system than mw2.mw2 was just the same thing over,it had a lot to it but nothing spectacular,kz2 has one of the best class systems out there and it also brought medics into online play, and difficulty, better story and more players than mw2.
