Reggie Fils-Aime, President and CEO of Nintendo of America, revealed that there are 11 million female console owners in the Americas, not counting five-year old girls who play Carnival Games on their DS or Mums who dabble in the occasional PC game.
Showing off two slides created based on NoA’s research, Reggie said that female ‘primary players’ of consoles were roughly one third of males. He explained that the ‘primary players’ were the people who generally use the console the most.
Reggie revealed this in order to show how well Nintendo is doing in the console market, presumably. Female-Nintendo console owners average out at 80% of all female console owners, around 9 million.
This didn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of a deliberate attempt to expand the market.
Either Nintendo are doing this to annoy the many, many, many female hardcore gamers out there or they’re doing it to show off their newfound wealth.
