If there is one game on the PlayStation 3 that almost everyone is eager to play early next year, it’s God of War III. We’ve seen how great the first two God of War titles were on the PlayStation 2, and the ending of God of War II left us with a cliffhanger that made us even more excited for the release of God of War III. While there’s approximately three more months left before we can help Kratos fight against the Gods of Olympus, SCEA wants to give us one more chance to refresh our memories on the first two God of War titles by re-releasing both God of War games on a single blu-ray disc.
God of War Collection is the compilation of the first two God of War titles that were slightly remade with HD graphics. With that being said, how special is this God of War Collection to the fans of the God of War series? Let’s take a look on the HOTs and the NOTs:
HOT
Same game, Same intense of action
With the release of the God of War Collection you get two games that are the same ones you played on the PlayStation 2. There is no added story, nor any extras that you can unlock. The intense boss fights and the quick time events are left untouched. The bonus DVD included on God of War II is included in the compilation except that one wasn’t remade for high definition.
Trophies
One of the biggest additions in God of War Collection that everyone wants was the trophy integration. Both God of War titles offer trophies for everyone to unlock. There are a lot of trophies to unlock but don’t think that it’s going to be easy. An example of one of the difficult trophies that are hard to unlock is to do 200 combos, or finish a certain fight in under 15 minutes. As always, if you want challenge, this might be a good thing. I am still halfway through in collecting the trophies in this game but my goal is to collect all of it!
60fps, 720p Resolution
As soon as I booted up the God of War Collection on my PS3, I was astounded to see how vivid and sharp the graphics are in both games. From the scenery to the boss fights that Kratos will encounter, everything was really nicely remade to make this game the superior version than the original. The game runs in full 60 frames per second. I compared both God of War III demo to the games in God of War Collection, and one of the things I noticed was that the quality on the first two games that was remade are somehow similar. Of course God of War III has far more superior graphics but the execution of Kratos’ attacks in the first two God of War titles are as smooth as the one on God of War III demo that I’ve played.
Early access to God of War 3 Demo
Upon purchasing the God of War Collections, you will be getting an early access to the much awaited God of War III demo. There will be a voucher code included inside the package and you can use to redeem it on the PlayStation Network. The demo is in 2.2GB at least, but be rest assured that it’s going to be worth it.
NOT
No HD on Cutscenes
Majority of the in-game cutscenes in both games weren’t remade at all. Most of them are untouched, and it’s a little bit of a disappointment to me knowing with these whole remake version of the game; I can see a better cutscenes from these two games. Every cutscenes that I see was a cluttered mess and I didn’t like it. However, it’s not like there are a lot of cut scenes anyway.
VERDICT
Honestly, if you are a fan of the first two God of War titles and you’re looking for some games to keep you busy until the release of God of War III, the God of War Collection is the game you’re looking for. For the price of $39.99, you are getting a great deal, not only because you get the first two God of War titles, and having them remade in HD, but you will get to refresh your memory before God of War III. Oh, don’t forget there are Trophies also to keep you challenged. $39.99 gets you two of the greatest Playstation 2 titles to ever be released, and both with easily last you over 20 hours your first time through. God of War Collection is no doubt a worthy title to be added in your PS3 collection.

November 16, 2009 at 6:55 PMI think the first ninja gaiden sigma had cutscene untouched which was a little bit weird. You play a game which actually looks good in hd but the cutscene are not.
Even if the cutscene are not in hd, i will get this game as soon i can.
