Now that all the GamesCom hype and excitement has subsided, I finally got some time to play Batman: Arkham Asylum. Since the full review is embargoed, we will try to keep things minimal in this impression.
I’m sure most of you have played the demo. While it was a great demo, it cut itself off a bit too short. The demo ends just before the boss fight with the monster unleashed by the Joker. Let me tell you, boss fights in Arkham Asylum are really challenging. Playing this game can be a bit tricky because you really have to use the environment and plan your tactics before attacking. It’s a nice blend of action and stealth, think Metal Gear Solid crossed with Assassins Creed.
As far as the story goes, a lot of familiar characters make an appearance. Joker may be annoying, but in this game he’s a great villian. We know the Joker has trapped Batman in Arkham, but why did he do it? What is his master plan? Will Robin, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, and Poison Ivy will make an appearance? We’ll see… I won’t spoil anything but I guarantee that If you love the Batman saga, you will love this game.
The fights in Arkham Asylum are rather interesting. It may look repetitive but there is a lot of depth. As you go through the game, a lot of unlockables will be revealed. What are they? Just look forward to our review next week!
