Fallout 3: Mothership Zeta is the fifth and final downloadable expansion from Bethesda. The expansion is currently available on the XBOX 360 for 800 Points and will be soon available for the Playstation 3. It will also be included in Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition which is scheduled to release later this year.
Mothership Zeta travels beyond our own planet and into space, where the player must enter and investigate an alien spacecraft. When downloaded, a radio signal will be heard. The beacon to access the spaceship is located North-West of the Mining Field. As expected, this expansion will also add new weapons and items into the mix.
The basic gist of this new expansion is this, a mysterious distress signal is sent out over the radio. Hearing this on your pip boy, you quickly head to where the signal is coming from and are promptly abducted onto the strange ship. It is then up to you to find a way out of captivity and seek help, if there is any, on the Mothership Zeta.
Now let’s take a look on what’s hot and what’s not with Mothership Zeta! Is it one of the best expansions of Fallout 3?
HOT
New Weapons
One of the strongest weapons found in this expansion is the Alien Disintegrator. With over 70 damage, taking out an enemy in one shot is a breeze especially if you couple it with the psycho med. Shock Batton, Alien Atomizer and Plasma Pistol are some of the other unique weapons found in this expansion.
Interesting Characters
There are some interesting new people to run into while trapped in the Mothership Zeta. Certain characters from the Pitt, Operation Anchorage, and Point Lookout will also make an appearence in this expansion. They too have been abducted, and depending on the decisions you make could prove to be quite valuable as you play through and try to escape.
New Environment
Playing through this reminds me of Star Wars. The new space environment is a nice change to what we’re used to and adds a new level of depth to the already expansive world of Fallout. Venturing through the inside of the spaceship and space is very well done, giving off a nice new vibe of being hopelessly lost in the dark pits of space.
NOT
Short… Only 3 hours
Mothership Zeta can be finished by an experienced Fallout 3 player in about three hours. It is one of the shortest expansion for Fallout 3 but it’s fun so that can be forgiven.
Boring Storyline..
Out of all the expansion released for Fallout 3, Mothership Zeta has one of the weakes storylines. Why do I say that? Just play through it…
VERDICT
Overall, Mothership Zeta is a worthy experience for Fallout 3 fans. If you love the other four expansion, there’s no doubt that you will love this game. Even though the game is only three hours long, and the story feels lacking, it is still a worthy experience to travel outside the Wasteland. For the 800 Microsoft Points, your money will be spent well.
